UDPATE: this board has been so successful it has sold out. We are now taking pre-orders for our next delivery expected mid' June. PLUS we have added a fabulous new 24cm wide option to this stunning oak!

Barn Hearth is a gorgeous, rich medium to medium-dark deep coloured oak in fabulous 22cm & 24cm wide boards. The natural grain & flow of the oak is accentuated by the combination of the smoking (aka fuming) process and the hardwaxed oil finish. This results in a stunning lustre to the board, highlighting all the handworked blemishes and imperfections one would expect to see in a reclaimed oak floor.

Stacked full of charm & character, Barn Hearth really is a superb handworked & handaged facsimile of reclaimed oak flooring. Looking as if your great great Uncle Damian and all his descendants have walked on it for many a year, this fantastic oak floor exudes a timeworn, time-blemished and well-trodden appeal. Each plank undergoes various handworking processes, many unique, to produce the kind of surface, age and edge you’d associate with a hardworking old, oak floor. We have built upon the natural blemishes and imperfections in the oak and added a sympathetic vintage feel with deliberate defects and broken edges. Every handworked process, the smoking process and the finishing oil all meld together to create a truly beautiful, sculpted oak floor with a historic flavour.

Our Barn collection of distressed and aged oak flooring gives the gorgeous look and feel of reclaimed oak but in a stable, engineered board making it suitable for modern installations and with underfloor heating.

Barn Hearth oak floor is available in 2.0cm (20mm) thick engineered boards, 220cm in length & 22cm wide (2200mm x 220mm) and 1.5cm (15mm) thick engineered baords, 220cm in length & 24cm wide (2200mm x 240mm). This engineered wood flooring has individually distressed & antiqued edges and fits together via tongue & groove. More installation information can be found under the specification tab.

Finishing Oil Hardwaxed Oiled
Structural Board 20mm Format The 22cm wide format is a 20mm thick board so can be laid directly on joists using an appropriate fixing mechanism.
Grade RUSTIC GRADE: Rustic grade wood has the largest range of colour variation, sap content and allows almost a limitless size and number of knots. There will be checks (stable splits) across & between the growth rings, all of which add to its natural charm. Filler will be used and the colour is traditionally dark, carefully selected to compliment the oak rather than to match it or ‘disappear’. Rustic grade oak produces a stunning, traditional vintage looking floor.
Glue-Down We recommend fixing engineered oak, where possible, with the Glue-down method. Using a high-quality adhesive will result in the most stable floor installation as the base of each board is bonded directly to the sub-floor. No underlay is needed and no gluing of the tongue and groove is required. We recommend Bona Quantum flexible wood flooring adhesive though many other brands are available – speak with your installer as they will likely have a tried and tested product they can supply.
Floating Glue-down method is not appropriate for sub-floors that are damp, are mixed i.e. timber subfloor combined with concrete/screed sub-floor or have specific requirements such as acoustic deadening. With sub-floors of this type the Floating installation method will likely be proposed by your installer. The boards are not fixed to the sub-floor but instead uses the weight of the floor itself to keep them in place, usually with the use of an underlay between the sub-floor and boards. The tongue & groove would normally be glued in a floating installation. NB: Beswick stone do not provide underlay, glue or any other wood installation product.
Blending Shade and colour variation should be expected in our real timber engineered oak products. Each board will react differently to the finishing processes used and have unique characteristics such as knots and highlighted grain. Stronger tone & colour variation can occur between batches, so it is recommended you ensure you order enough for your project in one batch. As always when laying real timber flooring a good number of packs should be opened at a time and blended.
