A stately new addition to our antique & aged oak flooring collection, Stanford engineered oak is the more evolved, elder sibling to our popular Umber oak. This new format oak board comes in the super-wide oak plank size of 24cm. At 20mm thick, with a top 6mm layer of real oak, this sumptuous, medium to dark coloured wooden floor, can be used over joists or with underfloor heating in modern installations.

If your scheme demands an oak floor of elegance, luxury, polish & grace then our Stanford oak flooring has to be at the top of your shopping list. This artisan worked oak is first selected to have all the characteristics of an aged hardwood floor like shrunken knots & small cleaves. It is then deep smoked, a process that fumes the raw oak for a longer period, darkening the colour. Due to the different moisture content within the boards, this procedure results in a highly attractive tonally varied oak floor awash with colours ranging from pale golden umber to mild latte. Each plank is then manually scraped, antiqued, brushed and polished using a series of techniques to transform the ‘clean’ oak into a true facsimile of a well-trodden, time-loved, historic wooden floor.

Stanford aged & distressed, deep smoked oak flooring gives the striking look and feel of time-worn oak but in a stable, engineered board making it suitable for modern installations and with underfloor heating.

Stanford antiqued oak floor is available in 2.0cm (20mm) thick engineered boards, 220cm in length & 24cm wide (2200mm x 240mm) in a robust hardwaxed oiled finish. This engineered wood flooring has individually distressed & antiqued edges and fits together via tongue & groove. More installation information can be found under the specification tab.

Grade RUSTIC GRADE: Rustic grade wood has the largest range of colour variation, sap content and allows almost a limitless size and number of knots. There will be checks (stable splits) across & between the growth rings, all of which add to its natural charm. Filler will be used and the colour is traditionally dark, carefully selected to compliment the oak rather than to match it or ‘disappear’. Rustic grade oak produces a stunning, traditional vintage looking floor.
Glue-Down We recommend fixing engineered oak, where possible, with the Glue-down method. Using a high-quality adhesive will result in the most stable floor installation as the base of each board is bonded directly to the sub-floor. No underlay is needed and no gluing of the tongue and groove is required. We recommend Bona Quantum flexible wood flooring adhesive though many other brands are available – speak with your installer as they will likely have a tried and tested product they can supply.
Floating Glue-down method is not appropriate for sub-floors that are damp, are mixed i.e. timber subfloor combined with concrete/screed sub-floor or have specific requirements such as acoustic deadening. With sub-floors of this type the Floating installation method will likely be proposed by your installer. The boards are not fixed to the sub-floor but instead uses the weight of the floor itself to keep them in place, usually with the use of an underlay between the sub-floor and boards. The tongue & groove would normally be glued in a floating installation. NB: Beswick stone do not provide underlay, glue or any other wood installation product.
Blending Shade and colour variation should be expected in our real timber engineered oak products. Each board will react differently to the finishing processes used and have unique characteristics such as knots and highlighted grain. Stronger tone & colour variation can occur between batches, so it is recommended you ensure you order enough for your project in one batch. As always when laying real timber flooring a good number of packs should be opened at a time and blended.
