Barnwood Mendip marks an evolution to our signature Barnwood antique oak collection. A new colour in a new size, this exciting development adds the option of a super-wide board in a deep, dark brooding colour full of life and verve. Mendip has a rich & robust colour – think burnt tones of toast & caramel topped off with a fabulous golden-amber hue.

Our Barnwood Mendip aged and antiqued oak flooring is brimming with an historic, timeless, hardwood floor charm. Every single plank is expertly distressed, by hand, to ensure a gorgeous timeworn feel to this wide board engineered oak. Influenced by the incomparable beauty of reclaimed oak, the techniques used by our artisan partners combine to produce an oak floor that appears much trodden, blemished and worn by the passage of time and use. Using rustic grade oak, we build upon the natural oak traits such as knots, cleaves and splits, elevating and enhancing these attributes through artisanal hand-working resulting in an antique oak floor chock-full of interest, depth and intrigue.

Our Barnwood collection of distressed and aged oak flooring gives the gorgeous look and feel of reclaimed oak but in a stable, engineered board making it suitable for modern installations and with underfloor heating.

Barnwood Mendip oak floor is available in 1.5cm (15mm) thick engineered boards, 220cm in length & 24cm wide (2200mm x 240mm) in a robust satin hardwaxed oiled finish. This engineered wood flooring has individually distressed & antiqued edges and fits together via tongue & groove. More installation information can be found under the specification tab.

Grade RUSTIC GRADE: RUSTIC GRADE: Rustic grade wood has the largest range of colour variation, sap content and allows almost a limitless size and number of knots. There will be checks (stable splits) across & between the growth rings, all of which add to its natural charm. Filler will be used and the colour is traditionally dark, carefully selected to compliment the oak rather than to match it or ‘disappear’. Rustic grade oak produces a stunning, traditional vintage looking floor.
Glue-Down We recommend fixing engineered oak, where possible, with the Glue-down method. Using a high-quality adhesive will result in the most stable floor installation as the base of each board is bonded directly to the sub-floor. No underlay is needed and no gluing of the tongue and groove is required. We recommend Bona Quantum flexible wood flooring adhesive though many other brands are available – speak with your installer as they will likely have a tried and tested product they can supply.
Floating Glue-down method is not appropriate for sub-floors that are damp, are mixed i.e. timber subfloor combined with concrete/screed sub-floor or have specific requirements such as acoustic deadening. With sub-floors of this type the Floating installation method will likely be proposed by your installer. The boards are not fixed to the sub-floor but instead uses the weight of the floor itself to keep them in place, usually with the use of an underlay between the sub-floor and boards. The tongue & groove would normally be glued in a floating installation. NB: Beswick stone do not provide underlay, glue or any other wood installation product.
Blending Shade and colour variation should be expected in our real timber engineered oak products. Each board will react differently to the finishing processes used and have unique characteristics such as knots and highlighted grain. Stronger tone & colour variation can occur between batches, so it is recommended you ensure you order enough for your project in one batch. As always when laying real timber flooring a good number of packs should be opened at a time and blended.
