Pale slate from the Cumbrian quarries has always been a stone of rare quality and beauty. With that rarity & beauty came a hefty price tag for a material that requires much care and attention. Our Shales Italian Porcelain range solves both challenges! Using stain-proof porcelain and modern technology, the beauty of Cumbrian Slate is reproduced here in all its glory minus the inherent weaknesses of the natural material and without the huge price tag. With tiles starting from just £32sqm+VAT for the ever-popular bathroom tile size of 60cm x 30cm, Shales Sand is a stunning, well-balanced and above all authentic take on this gorgeous natural stone.
Shales Sand stoneware porcelain, with its fine softness, faithfully shows the mineral details and delicate characteristics of split or ‘shaled’ stone. Wonderful movement within the tiles showcases the metamorphic traits producing a dynamic surface full of the natural essence of Cumbrian slate. Through this dynamism Shales Sand offers an ever-changing sensation perfect for areas that demand beauty and calm from haven bathrooms to large open living spaces flooded with natural light. Available in the two most in-demand rectangular tile sizes of 60cm x 30cm and 120cm x 60cm, Shales Sand exudes a strength and beauty, working harmoniously with any modern architectural space conveying a timeless taste. With a 20mm external version the natural continuity between inside & out can be achieved with the stunning large format 120cm x 60cm floor tile. This outdoor tile is a pre-order product with a lead time of approximately 5-6 weeks. We operate a minimum order quantity of 36 boxes (25.92sqm) on the dedicated 2cm (20mm) thick external tile. Price is £59sqm+VAT & delivery.

- Standard R10 10mm thick 60cm x 30cm internal format: Our stunning internal tile for use in both residential and commercial interiors, finished with a contemporary square. Minimum order quantity (MOQ): 5boxes (7.2sqm) – USUALLY AVAILABLE FROM STOCK.
- Standard R10 10mm thick 120cm x 60cm internal format: The mammoth internal tile for use in both residential and commercial interiors, finished with a contemporary square. Minimum order quantity (MOQ): 5boxes (7.2sqm) – USUALLY AVAILABLE FROM STOCK.
- Dedicated R11 20mm thick external format: The dedicated 20mm external tile format in Shales Sand is available in the same 120cm x 60cm tile size. Being a dedicated outdoor tile, this can be installed onto standard patio base or via a dry raised/floating installation using fixed or self-levelling pedestals. MOQ is 36boxes (25.92sqm) - THIS IS A PRE-ORDER ITEM.

PRICES ARE PER BOX EXCLUDING DELIVERY and the price per sqm is also shown allowing easy comparison. We operate a minimum order of 5 boxes (7.2sqm) on the internal formats & 36 boxes (25.92sqm) on the pre-order external format. | Installation Points | Large format porcelain tiles should be installed with a good quality S1 grade flexible adhesive and a fine grain grout. For large tiles it is strongly recommended that levelling clips are used and joints should be staggered by a maximum of 30% of the length of the tile AKA staggered brick bond. |

| External Installation Points | External formats are 20mm thick so can be installed on a standard MOT type 1 base, onto a prepared concrete/screed base or via a dry raised/floating installation using fixed or self levelling pedestals. If installing onto MOT then a wet sand & cement mortar mix must be used with the addition of SBR & SBR mixed with powdered to cement to form a bonding slurry used to prime the backs of the impervious tiles to provide a key for bonding. If installing onto concrete/screed a good quality external grade grey tile adhesive can be used. Tiles can either be grouted with a wide joint grout (we offer Rocatex Ultimate & Ardex FL grout), or finished with a brush-in resin compound or alternative jointing method. |
| Blending | Shade and colour variation should be expected in our ‘natural’ look porcelain products, no different to what you would see in real stone or timber. Stronger tone & colour variation can occur between batches, so it is recommended you ensure you order enough for your project in one batch. As per laying real stone/timber a good number of packs should be opened at a time and blended. |
