Provence Splitface Cobbles

Cleaving or splitting natural stone is an age-old technique for slicing into flags, tiles and the like. Each side of the cleave is unique as the split follows the natural make-up of the stone. Our quarry artisans then take these split blocks and work by hand, aging and chiselling, to lift the natural characteristics of the ‘splitface’, enhancing the textures and increasing the craggy nature of the stone. The result is an enchanting, time-worn & time-trodden finish to the cobbles that can introduce a very real historic feel into your landscape design.

Every cobble in all Provence splitface options is hand-cut, hand-aged & hand-chiselled, resulting in a wonderfully irregular surface, that will add loads of character & rustic charm to your outdoor design. If you’ve been inspired by old stone or cobbled paths, worn down & aged by the passing of time & use and want to inject this sense of beauty into your garden then our Provence splitface cobblestone might just be the answer.

Provence is a stunning pale limestone full of light tones including of flax, pale-straw, light-lemon & bone. This colour palette is lifted by a bumper fossil & quartz content of different colour to the surrounding bedrock, adding even more charm to this very pretty stone. These 3cm or 4.2cm (30mm or 42mm) thick splitface cobbles, created for charming outdoor spaces, look fantastic when used to pave sinuous garden paths or larger patio areas.

These rutted & rugged cobbles can simply form the centrepiece of your landscape design or be the understudy to our Provence outside flagstones, adding texture and contrast.

Design tip: Use the 10cm & 15cm wide cobblestone to create a mixed width pattern to elevate the rusticity even further whilst highlighting the mix of width and lengths.

PRICES ARE PER SQM EXCLUDING DELIVERY. We operate a minimum order quantity of 10sqm on the 3cm this cobble and 7sqm on the 4.2cm thick cobbles.

PLEASE NOTE: Cut samples are not available for this product, you do have the option of purchasing a full splitface cobble sample, charged at £5inc P&P. This £5 will be credited against any future order of Provence Outdoor Cobbles.

Also available are our Provence external finish step treads & coping stones. Steps are 115cm long x 35cm deep x 5cm thick with the front edge finished with a bullnose profile whilst coping stones are 100cm x 35cm x 4cm finished with a bullnose profile on both long sides and drip grooves on the underside. Technical
Suitability	Outdoors paving, patios and pathways
Installation Points	Cobbles & Setts can be laid directly onto an MOT type 1 external base or similar or onto a concrete/screed base. If installing onto MOT then a wet sand & cement mortar mix can be used with the addition of SBR. NB: white Portland cement must be used in place of standard grey cement. If installing onto concrete/screed a good quality external grade white tile adhesive can be used. We recommend using a slurry primer (aka Bond bridges or bond coats) to improve adhesion of the cobbles to the mortar bed.
